NEW TECHNOLOGY IS RARELY SUPERIOR TO AN OLD ONE IN EVERY FEATURE

Digital Camera Technology
New cameras can be used for video (including sound) and still pictures.

New technology does not always have the quality of image like the old cameras did. The advantages are that it can be an instantaneous image in there immediately as opposed to the old which has to be sent away to be developed or processed.

Batteries need to be charged for the digital cameras more often than for the old 35 mm cameras.

Ways that digital images can be stored, transferred and manipulated using other communication technology

CD' s
DVD' s
USB
Cellphone
Camera
U Tube - internet
Video cameras -(professional camcorders, web cams)
Live preview digital camera
Laptops
Camera in cellphones

With the prevalence of IMAGE capturing devices
WHAT ARE THE ETHICAL ISSUES
The requirement for Informed Consent of those who's images are been taken or recorded is very important. This must be obtained before the photo is taken.
The ethical issues of copyright of IMAGES and how easily they are able to be copied and changed have major implications for society today.

Digital Images could be used in occupation therapy practice to educate people on how to do exercises, what to do pre-op and post-op hip replacement for clients to be aware of what is safe and what is not. Video or Web cams are able to be used by a therapist for conferencing or for increasing their knowledge from other therapists if they are having a problem with a particular client.

On-line community www.depression

Today I looked at a on-line community about depression this is what I found.

This is a site that has been set up by the Ministry of Health in 2009 for people who are interested in depression.
The Home page has a title page "Understanding more about depression will help you find a way through with an interactive J.K. who is use as a guide through the site. The viewer can do a test to see if they are depressed and then there is an interactive journal to do about depression and how to change a person situation . This is an personal journal that is done daily and will take a week or longer to complete. The journal has headings 1.Do Something Positive, 2. Lifestyle changes, 3. Identify problems, 4. Find Solutions, 5. Create Plan ^. Review Your Progress.
The site has tabs that have heading like: Is This Depression and under this a another set of tabs Sign & Symptoms, Self-Test, Other Peoples Stories. This is used as an introduction to the site and has a test to take to check out if you may be depressed.

The site has a freephone number for people requiring help because they are depressed and need help. The test you take tells you if you are fine or require help by J.K. telling you to get help as he is concerned about the results the test gave you. This may be of help to someone if they do need help. On the site there are a number of different refers to where you can go for help and there is wall so a tab that talks about recovery and how to manage yourself and what to be aware of that can course problems for a person who gets depressed. This is a very good site with a positive message for those who use it and used the information for themselves and for others the may know because there is a caregivers tab also.

The "Big Keys" Key Broad

The "Big Keys" Key Broad help people with low vision to see the keys more clearly and improves their access to the keys on the key broad.
I can personally say that for me using the key broad was a lot easier to use, for me as I have vision problems. It was very surprising what a difference using the yellow keys and larger black letters made to my use of the key broad. From my own experience of using the keyboard it does make a difference. The use of this piece of equipment increases the functional capacity for the user because they are able to communicate with the wider world outside of themselves and their immediate world. Opening worlds and possibly new interest.

Image of BigKeys

BigKeys keyboards are standard-sized computer keyboards with extra large keys. The keys are 2.5cm square – 4 times bigger than the keys on standard computer keyboards.

Great for users who require a simplified, less confusing keyboard layout – but still need access to the many keyboard functions required for word processing, email correspondence and Internet browsing.

NEW! BigKeys Hgh-Contrast LX Keyboard with black printing on bright yellow keys in QWERTY layout now available! The yellow keys are preferred by some users with visual impairments. And some teachers recommend this black-on-yellow combination for users with certain learning amd/or specific visual disabilities.

Defintion of Assistive Technology
